Monthly Alumni Lunch - April 2014

Join San Diego Sigma Chi Alumni for lunch in April 2014 where our featured Sigma Chi guest speaker: Lt Col Dean Hunter, USAF Retired, PhD

Lt Col Hunter is a brother of Delta Xi Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity. On June 25, 1964, U.S. Air Force Capt. Dean Hunter flew three missions in nine hours enduring heavy ground fire from the Vietcong through heavy rain, stopping only for maintenance on his T-28 aircraft then returning to the air as quickly as possible.

He was even shot down during one of the missions, but was uninjured. He got his plane fixed and returned to the air, making low passes, barely clearing tree tops as he delivered blows, “annihilating over 400 to 1,300 attacking Viet Cong,” preventing the overrun and capture of American forces under attack on the ground.

He author of “For Love of Life and Country”, provided the public safety audience thrilling stories of being a US Marine combat rifleman during the Korean War, a US Air Force B-47 bomber pilot during the Cold War, and a US Air Force fighter pilot during the Vietnam War. All of the stories left the audience sitting on the edge of their seats as he recounted combat missions where he was actually listed as Killed-In-Action, not one, but two different times.
