Golfers, actors, baseball players featured in news

It has been a good summer for many newsworthy Sigma Chis.

Significant Sig Luke Donald, NORTHWESTERN 2001, finished tied for fifth at 2-under par at The Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St. Annes in the United Kingdom. He remains the world’s No. 1-ranked golfer.

The 2012 Emmy Award nominations were announced July 19. Ty Burrell, OREGON 1987, was nominated for best Supporting Comedy Actor for his role in ABC's Modern Family, while Significant Sig Woody Harrelson, HANOVER 1983, was nominated for best Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for his performance in Game Change.

Several Sigma Chis made the North-American Interfraternity Conference’s (NIC) All-Fraternity All-American baseball team. Infielder Zach Star, DEPAUW 2014, earned first-team status, while infielder Travis Clark, BUCKNELL 2013; infielder Zach Scott, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 2013; outfielder Bob Donato, BUCKNELL 2012; and utility player Bobby Czarnowski, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 2014, earned spots on the second team.

Case Western pitcher Jamie Hora, 2013, and infielder Matt Keen, 2013, each made the NIC’s third team. Pitcher Sean Collins, PURDUE 2012; pitcher Dan Gautieri, PENNSYLVANIA 2015; catcher Peter Zak, CASE WESTERN 2012; first baseman Brett Ossola, CASE WESTERN 2013; infielder Johnathan Erickson, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 2014; outfielder Chris Deig, WABASH 2012; outfielder John Frericks, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 2014; outfielder Mark McDermott, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 2012; outfielder Robbie Stein, DEPAUW 2014; and outfielder Gerry Runyan, BUCKNELL 2012, each earned honorable mention.
